"Fashion
is the greatest art for me now" are the words of Nini K, the hat designer
steadily rising up the ranks of who's who in accessories designs.
However
fashion hasn't always being the way for the young designer. Born in the Tbilisi
Republic of Georgia some 31 years ago her creative talents were first recognised,
but as an artist.
Nini
who credits Georgia's rich artistic and cultural traditions for her early inspirations
was renowned as one of the country 's rising artists based on her childhood sketches.
Soon
the world began to take notice and the young artist was invited to the Santa Fe
Art College as an exceptional artist. However her love for Tbilisi saw her return
six months later where she would later graduate from the State Art Academy of
Georgia.
However a visit to New York would prove to be life changing for the
young artist as it was in the Big Apple that she would decide to remain and develop
her creativity.
"New York is a place where ideas have no limits. This amazing city is the source of my inspirations" she says and it seemed New York was ready for Nini K because it was not long after that she was invited exhibit her work at a number of leading galleries.
Despite critical acclaim as a leading artist Nini began looking for other ways to express her ideas and as fate would have it she designed and made her first hat as a gift for her boyfriend. A design that proved so popular that she extended it to friends and family. So unique and tasteful were the hats that they became her trademark, one that she wanted to share with the world and in May 1999 she launched her own line, Nini K Inc.
It
was only a matter of time before artists, celebrities and fashionistas would start
to catch up and it is no surprise that many have become regulars at her New York
showroom.
As her hats designs continue to move from strength to strength they
are now stocked at some of the most prestigious stores in the world including
"Hat Shop" and "Bergdorf Goodman" in New York, "Atrium"
in Moscow and our very own Fenwick in London.
Nini K has no intention of slowing down and her creations are guaranteed to continue to turn heads and grab attention on each side of the Atlantic in both the Fashion and Art world.
Not bad for a girl from Tbilisi, Georgia who just wanted to make New York proud of her.
