Firefly

Released on DVD in the UK on the 19th April

This latest offering from Joss Whedon, he gave us Buffy the Vampire Slayer, is a sci fi western. If you listen to my university lecturers they would inform you that all sci fi is in fact a western. Whedon however has taken it a step further and set his western in space.

The show revolves around the crew of Serenity, a firefly class spacecraft, who spend there days looking for work and evading the alliance who rule the central core of the universe. The crew are made up of the Captain and his first officer, a woman he fought with during the war that the alliance won and their side lost, the pilot who is married to the first officer, a mechanic, a heavy, a preacher, a doctor with his sister and a high class prostitute otherwise known as a companion, believe it or not she is the respectable one!

These discs contain all fourteen episodes of the show including the feature length pilot show. I enjoyed watching this show and am somewhat disappointed that there are only these few episodes but was buoyed by the IMDB that says they are currently in the pre-production stages of a film currently called Serenity. Shooting is due to start on the 4th June 04

So I recommend that you see these in preparation for the film that if the show is anything to go by will be full of action, adventure, humour and probably romance.
