Herbie: Fully Loaded

Cast: Lindsay Lohan, Matt Dillon, Justin Long
Director: Angela Robinson

It remains to be seen whether the new Herbie films boosts sales dramatically of VW beetles in much the same way that the remake of the Italian Job may have boosted the income of sellers of classic minis.

Here, our Herb is facing the knacker’s yard until Maggie (Lohan) picks her up, having toured the yard in search of a bargain. After that Herbie wants to play but comes up against the nasty Trip Murphy (Dillon) who attempts to steal the show but is up against a car who has form in the game of being the headline act.

This Disney remake is ok as a piece of family entertainment but its not going to stay long in the memory stakes once you’ve seen it. Its fairly obvious which way its going to go once you’ve worked out that gutsy Maggie is up against dirty tricks Murphy and after that its just a case of letting Herb go through his repertoire of automobile tricks. A short cinema release one suspects before a longer shelf life parked in the video shelves for our Herb.
