Riding Giants

A surfing documentary which it would be fair to say is likely to be of big appeal if you’re really into surfing, but for others may become a tad boring.

Peralta made another documentary about skateboarding (Dogtown and Z-boys), and this follows in a similar vein, picking out major surfers, interviewing them and then showing their exploits over the years, as they take on bigger, better and ultimately more dangerous surfs.

Told by keen surfers, the best moments have to be the coverage of seeing one or two of the champions breaking under huge waves and mastering the might of the sea as they skim through the water, just before the big waves break. The other act of mastery is in the camerawork of catching these great surfs as they’re happening, its pretty remarkable footage and is bound to be enjoyed by surfing fans.
