More movie reviewsThe Cave is yes you’ve guessed it, about a cave set in the Carpathian Mountain range and given it’s a horror film, it’s about nasty goings-on below the surface. Those into horror will recall that there was a gory film along these lines out only about two weeks or so ago called The Descent – The Descent was made on a shoestring budget in comparison with the money spent on The Cave and some would say that ironically the cheaper alternative is also the better film.
The Cave is derivative of many films in the genre most notably Alien. Here, a group of US explorers unwisely poke their nose in underground, heading down into a maze of tunnel spaces under a church – of course they should leave well alone since as you can imagine in the cavernous shadows, scary beasties begin to stir when they realize their world is being invaded. To adopt a line from The Sweeney, these critters are none too happy especially because they haven’t had any dinner ! The Cave may well suit pre-teens unable to get in to a meatier film like The Descent – its got a few scary moments but is fairly derivative of a genre done to death a bit in terms of parasitic organisms lurking in the shadows.
