More movie reviewsYoung Holly Hamilton (Duff) has got a problem. Her Mum Jean (Lockyear) is a flighty sort who always moves on when she falls out with a partner, believing she needs a change of scene each time. Young daughter Holly has to move too. Holly cooks up a plan to invent through the internet a secret admirer for her mother, to lift her self-esteem only to find that the matchmaking goes pear-shaped when she actually has to make this fictitious beau appear in person. Can she actually find her Mom’s perfect man ? Or must she own up to her actions ? Just how desperate will Holly’s matchmaking measures get ? And most importantly, will you care ?
Sadly The Perfect Man doesn’t make the perfect film. It’s a flighty film that has to make the most of a flimsy plot that perhaps should have been ignored in the first place. Whether it’s the screenplay from Gina (Princess Diaries) Wendkos’s screenplay or the original story from Heather Robinson, Michele McQuown and Katherine Torpey (note : three credited just for the story ?!) which is at fault is anyone’s guess, but this is certainly one of those films that isn’t going to stay long in the memory.
