Are we there yet?
Cast: Ice Cube, Nia Long, Aleisha Allen
Director: Brian Levant
Certificate: US 2005, cert PG, rt 94 mins,
Black American family film in which Ice Cube plays a young man who falls in love with a lovely estranged single mother but in his bid to win her over, has to contend with her kids who donít seemingly want any man to enjoy the attentions of their mother apart from their real father.
Ice Cube tells us all about blingage, gets to ride a horse and has an absurd wise-cracking baseball miniature that tiresomely comes to life every few minutes but can only be seen by Ice Cube when he does so.
It will find an audience but probably only a small one since its purporting to be a comedy but is really just plain silly rather than really funny. There are amazingly silly road chases involving lorry drivers and small van drivers and naturally the kids at first take a disliking to this guy, only to fall for him in the end. Should you find yourself unfortunately having to sit through it, you might find yourself saying, nay hoping for the final credits and saying to yourself, are we not there yet? Thereís better things on release, but if youíre looking for an innocuous predictable family comedy where you donít have to think at all, I guess this might just fit the bill.
