Editors - 'The Back Room'
Other recent reviewsMore album reviews
Bloody Yanks coming over here taking our influences...The Killers, Interpol and The Bravery Ė VERY American bands who sound VERY English.
In the Editors we have a home grown talent that work the same vein as the aforementioned bands but do it better!
Singer Tom Smith has a deadpan, yet powerful style. The chorus to 'Blood' has the excellent lyric 'blood runs through your our veins, that's where our similarity ends'. Other album highlights include the track 'Sparks', with the lyric ĎAll sparks will burn out in the endí and the track 'Fall' with the lamenting lyrics 'these dark pubs we drink in somehow light up when Iím with you, I wanted to see this for myself'
There is a relentless beat running through the album, clean undistorted guitar riffs overplay dark chords. It is almost formulaic but each song manages to sound distinct.
Editors have been compared to Joy Division in the UK music press, they may use some dark imagery but Editors are probably more accessible. Face it The Bravery were over hyped, your Killers album is worn out and Interpols second album wasn't as good as the first - Buy this put it on your headphones, wrap up warm and prepare for the cold months ahead.
