2006-03-07 08:00:00The former Boomtown Rats frontman-turned-activist was presented with the honour - which gives him the right to graze sheep in the city's centralpark - on Sunday (05.03.06).
Accepting the award, he said: "It is raining and it's cold, but it is abeautiful day."
He was joined at the ceremony by his 91-year-old father, Bob Geldof Senior,and three of his daughters.
The 'I Don't Like Mondays' singer also accepted a Waterford crystal globe inrecognition of the two decades he has spent fundraising for the poor.
Geldof organized the landmark 'Live Aid' concert in aid of famine relief in Ethiopia in 1985 and repeated the phenomenon last year with a series of Live8 concerts around the world.
Past recipients of the 'Freedom Of The City' in Dublin include late US President John F. Kennedy, former South African President Nelson Mandela,Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul II.
