2005-04-05 08:00:01The couple, who announced the birth of baby son Cruz six weeks ago, have now revealed that his middle name will be David, in honour of his soccer ace dad.
The superstar couple - famed for giving their children bizarre names - disclosed the new moniker yesterday after the tot's birth certificate was revealed by authorities in Spain where 29-year-old David plays soccer for Real Madrid.
But insiders claim that the down-to-earth name suggests that baby Cruz - whose first name means 'cross' in Spanish - may choose to be known as David Junior when he grows up.
A source said: "The middle name will give the youngster something to fall back on."
Last month, the England football captain and his former Spice Girl wife, who also have two other sons, six-year-old Brooklyn Joseph and Romeo James, two, admitted that they picked their new son's name by testing it out around the house first.
David revealed at the time: "You have to do the little test. Victoria was in the lounge and I'd go outside and shout upstairs, 'Cruz, come down!' And then we said, 'Yes, that's the one'.
"We just wanted something different, of course, because that's the way we are.
"We actually struggled with Cruz's name because it was right up to the last couple of days and we just couldn't decide."
