2005-02-01 07:00:03The musician - who has raised millions for the troubled region through Band Aid and Live Aid - says he is tired of constantly being questioned about the continent, and is disillusioned with the work that is going on there.
Geldof - who was previously the lead singer with 80s band the Boomtown Rats - believes the progress Africa is making in solving its humanitarian problems is far too slow and believes the media waste time interviewing celebrities on the matter.
He said in an interview with Britain's Radio Times magazine: "Who's interested if the leader of Niger is interviewed on television. It's, 'Get Geldof'. I'm Mr Bloody Africa. I'd dearly love not to have to go there. More often than not itbores me profoundly - the pace of change is far too slow and Africans excuse their own complicity in the same way as our politicians."
The rocker, who will be honoured with a lifetime achievement award at next week's Brit Awards, also says he wants to be remembered for his music rather than his charity work.
He added: "Contrary to public perception, all I am interested in is my music. You'd be deluded to think you'd have heard of Bob Geldof if there hadn't been the Boomtown Rats."
