"Is My Relationship Over"

My girlfriend and I recently had an argument that split us apart. We’ve been together for 2 1/2 years. I sent here a letter telling her what I want from her like future wise and that I cared for her etc. she texted me back saying:

THANK YOU FOR THE FLOWERS THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL. I READ YOUR LETTER, AND YOU ARE NOT COMPLETELY TO BLAME. IT’S MORE LIKE 50/50. I KNOW THINGS ARE HARD FOR US NOW, BUT THEY WILL GET BETTER. I WANT TO TELL YOU I FORGIVE YOU FOR EVERYTHING, BUT I CAN'T. AND I KNOW YOU CAN'T REALLY FORGIVE ME 100 PERCENT. JUST GIVE ME TIME AND I WILL COME AROUND. I JUST NEED TIME TO THINK AND DECIDE WHAT I REALLY WANT FROM HERE ON OUT. I KNOW I WANT TO BE WITH YOU EVENTUALLY, BUT RIGHT NOW I NEED MY SPACE TO FIGURE THINGS OUT. I JUST NEED SOME TIME. AND I THINK YOU DO TOO. JUST TRUST ME. I LOVE YOU.

Do you think it’s over and she doesn’t know how to tell me or something else?

Dear Scott,

It seems to me your girlfriend put a lot of thought into this message, and I really believe that if she truly wanted it to be over, then that’s what she would have told you. It’s not that she doesn’t want to be with you, it’s that the argument that split you two apart is still weighing heavily on her mind and she needs time to get past that.

What I really like about her message to you is that rather than blaming everything on you, she is taking responsibility also. I commend her for that. In my opinion, if you really love her and want to be with her, give her the time and space she needs, because odds are when she’s ready to rejoin you, she will have worked through her fears and doubts, and both she and your relationship will be all the stronger for it (and thus, so will you!).
