My boyfriend and I recently broke up and he's been nothing but mean to me. He never talks to me and he never sits with me at lunch anymore. He completely ignores me and I want to be his friend but he flirts with this other chick that I can not stand.

Dear Nicole,
Why do you want to be friends with someone who’s mean to you? Wouldn’t you rather expend your energy on people who treat you with respect and kindness? I know he’s your ex, and I’m sure you’re feelings for him are still strong, but respect and love yourself enough to not put up with his rude and obnoxious behavior.
The way I see it, he’s extremely immature and has no idea how to conduct himself post-breakup. He may still have feelings for you, and as a way of making himself feel better and preserving his pride, he ignores you, treats you callously and flirts with other girls in front of you. Pretty adult of him, huh?
But, whatever the reasons, don’t stand for it. Show him – and more importantly show yourself – that you’re better than that! And make a habit of only surrounding yourself with people who lift you up…not put you down.
