The Messy TravelersGroover and Beth - The Italian Job

Bonjourno!

We have literally brought the kitchen sink with us!
Life in a rucksack means the same pants for ten days so no change there then...(nice one Janice for the advice on the pants situation!!)

Our first test was on Friday when we missed our connecting flight to Milan due to sitting on Heathrow runway for an hour. Once we'd realised we needed to actually get on the plane (!!) we arrived in Milan only to find we had missed our flight to Rome that contained our luggage. After plenty of gesturing and talking very slowly in English we managed to get a lift on the later flight and were re-united with our luggage no probs.

We stayed in a family-run B&B about 10 mins walk from the centre of Rome, it was cheap and clean the only downside was that they were redoing the bathroom hence the middle-aged Italian bloke in the bathroom (don't worry Judgie I gave him the full Sanchez treatment..)

We were both very impressed with Roma -It is a beautiful city with beautiful people, everyone is fit!! Even the tramps!!

We have done all the touristy things i.e Trevi Fountain, St Peters Basilica, Piazza Novona, Il Vittoriane etc bloody brilliant too!! We got ripped off a couple of times, but there is cheap vino and we found a bar that sold Guinness where we met a middle-aged but very friendly Italian couple. She had a broken arm and I insisted on signing it :, I even managed to get a couple of drinks using the old "mi Anlgelterre er...not much money mate" routine.

The Coliseum was an amazing sight, definitely worth queuing to venture inside. We momentarily slipped into American tourist mode however when we agreed to have our photo's taken with two blokes dressed as Gladiators...using OUR camera...to the tune of 15 Euro's! Fat controller of accounts (Groover) was punished with a hefty drinking fine...we would have our revenge later though...

We have fully initiated ourselves into Italian culture, I've gone for the rough & ready look by not shaving, eating pizza & buying a Roma footie shirt for 10.33 Euro's (that's 6.50 to you guvnor), Beth is knocking back the cheap vino, ah well when in Rome...

We felt honored to be among the first English to try & cock up the inauguration of the Euro although the locals were struggling with it more than us, they kept having to get a big Euro-calculator out.

We went to see Roma v Torino on Sunday, there was an incredible atmosphere, they're mad for their footy out here. Totti got the winner 1-0, at the Olympic Stadium where the Germans knocked us out of the World Cup in 1990 due to Waddle's mullet missing his penalty.

Got messy on Saturday and decided to balance the books by doing a runner from the bar, shame as the nosebag was good & they sold Guinness too.

Anyway gotta go, will write again soon, we are getting a train to Florence tomorrow then on to Delhi on the 14th. Well into this traveling lark, taking every day as it comes, enjoying the freedom but missing you all loads, not too late to come & join us!!!!!

Love to you all and take care,
